Arkwright Scholarship 2013-15

The Arkwright Engineering Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate excellence and leadership in engineering to promote engineering in the UK. The selection process involves a project report, a three-hour design exam and an interview at a local university.

The Scholarships are awarded to high-calibre 16 year old students through a rigorous selection process and support students through the two years of their A levels

As an Arkwright Scholar, I was awarded funding for my projects such as CanSat, and an industry mentor at National Grid UK.

My mentor showed me around several National Grid sites, such as a London substation, a liquid natural gas importation terminal, super-grid control centre in Reading and the Warwick-based headquarters. I also participated in an activity to connect a new generator to the national super grid. This experience gave me an insight into national-scale engineering as a career and furthered my interest in sustainable energy.
